Elephants Clinic Under Construction

"The help- Elephant Clinic is being erected just within the curve of the old city walls ( the new Lonely Planet edition calls it "The Mystery City" because of the possible Mon origins). It is being built of local, natural materials (unlike the concrete and steel in neighbouring Thailand, lacking hardwoods) in view of soothing the elephants, who anyway dislike entering buildings.

Ours will be all Mai Du Rosewood, even the roofing will be in Rosewood shingles: this way our pachyderm patients will be comfortable with it, several have helped in the construction so they'll feel right at home.

First Patients!

It is a very simple construction, just to permit treatment and operations, with large basins for foot-washings and treatment. Elephants needing longer treatment will rest outside in the shade.

At the request of the leading local NGO, the Clinic will also look after Livestock, store vaccines etc and be active in Poultry and other livestock breeding.

Vets in action

The Clinic requires donations for: Instruments/ Medicines/ Medical Literature/ Bandages etc. We welcome all your proposals!"

Two local veterinarians, with the Lao Forestry Services, are on call. Treatment will be free of charge at the Clinic, for out-patient visits we will have to charge for transport.
